If you haven’t seen the movie, “Yesterday” then a bit of a spoiler alert here. Pause.
There is a much talked about scene, that left some feeling upset, but it touched me deeply. It moved me to tears. I returned to the theater a second time just to take in this ‘cameo.’ I realize now it was part of the inspiration behind my new workshop, “The Key to Happiness.”
Since it made such a difference in my life, and I felt it was quite beautiful, I had to ask one of my daughters why other people would find it so ‘disturbing.’ Why was this scene so controversial, when I found it to be a high point in my movie experience this summer?
There are movies where people are blown up, and they don’t criticize these movies. More and more we see death, in graphic ways, being shown in a movie. But have a person who has passed, return to life, and people are disturbed…?
My daughter reminded me how some people move back away from me, afraid to be near me, when they find out I am psychic. Or how some people are scared of miracles, when we share supernatural experiences with them. I suppose they don’t like what they cannot comprehend and control.
For me the scene in “Yesterday” with the former Beatle returned to life, was perfect. It made me gasp out loud when he appeared. I loved seeing John happy and at peace with his ‘other’ life.
The scene I am referring to in this delightful movie is when the main character, Jack, who is a bit confused about life, asks this famous Beatle if his life was happy, to which the Wise Beatle says, “Yes.” Then Jack asks him if he was also successful. The Wise Beatle says he already answered that question. He said he was happy.
Happiness is more than a simple emotion. It is more than a by-product of a successful life. It isn’t something you get when you acquire stuff, or reach the top of the corporate ladder. There is no guarantee that fame, fortune, or even romantic relationships will bring you happiness.
Yet everyone keeps doing things hoping happiness will be their reward. Everyone is hoping someday…someday…they will find it. But it isn’t at the end of the rainbow.
Happiness is a path you choose. It is the guidepost on the journey of life, to let you know if you are on or off track.
We aren’t talking about a superficial temporary kind. This is a deep, peaceful happiness that you experience when you are living an authentic life. When you know who you are, why you are here and show up each day expressing your true essence, you will know happiness.
If there is a lack of happiness in your life, you probably aren’t living life as you desire. You may not be yourself, or even know who you are.
When you take the necessary steps to get in touch with who you really are, and live life in that vibration, life opens up and so will your ability to know happiness.
Remember who you are. Be authentic each day. Follow a path that feels right for you. In all decisions, which path feels lighter? Which path would bring you closer to happiness?
Let happiness guide you. Because all we need is peace, love and happiness!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. – John Lennon
