My Fool’s Journey Continues…
We were in Florida by Divine Appointment…well, it seemed so.
A friend flew myself and my daughter to Clearwater Beach where we were able to reconnect with all that I love about Florida.
We spent days swimming in the pool. Late afternoon we went to the beach and swam in calm, bathtub temperature waters.
We watched the sunset and the beautiful display of colors, clouds and shore birds. We laid back on beach blankets and watched the stars come out.
At the end of two weeks in paradise my friend handed me the keys to her car and gas money to drive her car back to Kansas City for her. You see, that was part of the agreement. She flew us to Florida, I got to reconnect and decide if I want to live there again, and then Amber and I were to drive her car back to the Midwest for her.
The only problem was I didn’t want to leave. I asked her if she wanted the car back this year. As I held the envelope of cash I asked her, “You really think I’m going to go North?”
Standing with the car loaded up, Amber in the co-pilot seat, I behind the wheel, I took a deep breath and headed north. We didn’t get far, though…Mickey Mouse called to us one more time.
And then something told me to leave some things behind, to keep part of my energy in Florida.
So on the way I rented a tiny storage locker in Dunedin, Florida. I put in this tiny storage locker my sundresses, sandals, suntan lotion, a beach chair, a beach umbrella and a couple of our favorite movies.
Amber and I looked at each other nervously. What if we didn’t make it back? We were leaving behind some of our favorite things.
I walked away from our little place in Florida, the combination to the lock in my coin purse, knowing I now had to come back.
All the way back to Kansas I kept reminding Amber, “We have a place in Florida!”
We got back to Kansas City, dropped off my friend’s car, unpacked, repacked my car, said “hello” and “good-bye” to my older two daughters, got in the car and headed back to Florida.
In one week we went to Kansas City and back again to Florida.
The Fool’s Journey is a never ending one.
I’m back in Florida, for good. Well, for as long as it is good…and I hope that is a very long time!
